Installing the Waterproofing System

Once the shower pan and pre-slope have been properly prepared, the hot mop waterproofing system can be installed. Hot mop creates a continuous waterproof membrane beneath the finished shower using reinforced layers of asphalt-saturated felt and hot asphalt.

The waterproofing is installed across the shower pan and carefully integrated around the drain, curb, corners and perimeter to help protect the surrounding structure from water intrusion.

Reinforced Layers of Felt & Hot Asphalt

Our hot mop process uses alternating layers of asphalt-saturated felt and hot asphalt to build a reinforced waterproof membrane.

Each layer works together as part of the complete system, creating a durable barrier beneath the shower floor before the remaining preparation and tile installation take place.

Waterproofing the Critical Areas

Some of the most important parts of a shower pan are the transitions that aren't visible once the shower is finished.

Special attention is given to the drain, inside and outside corners, curb, perimeter and other penetrations or transitions where the waterproofing system needs to remain continuous.

Proper Drain Integration

The shower drain is a critical part of the waterproofing system. The hot mop membrane is carefully integrated with the shower drain so water reaching the waterproofing layer can move toward the drainage system rather than becoming trapped beneath the finished shower.

Combined with the properly prepared pre-slope, this helps create a complete shower pan system rather than simply a waterproof surface.

Ready for Water Testing

After the hot mop waterproofing system has been completed, the shower pan is ready for the next stage of the process.

Before the waterproofing is covered by the remaining shower preparation and tile work, the shower pan can be water tested to help verify the integrity of the newly installed system.
