Water Testing

Testing Before the Shower Is Rebuilt
Once the hot mop waterproofing system has been installed, the shower pan can be water tested before the remaining preparation and finished surfaces are installed.
Testing the shower pan at this stage allows the waterproofing system to be checked while it is still exposed and accessible.
Checking the Waterproofed Shower Pan
The shower drain is temporarily plugged and the shower pan is filled with water to test the newly installed waterproofing system.
The water level can then be monitored to help verify that the shower pan is holding properly before the project moves forward.
Why Water Testing Matters
Once tile and other finished materials are installed, the waterproofing system is no longer easily accessible. Testing beforehand provides an important opportunity to check the shower pan before those materials cover the work.
For shower pan repairs and replacements, this is an important checkpoint between waterproofing and rebuilding the finished shower.
Ready for the Next Stage
After the appropriate testing is completed, the shower can move forward with the remaining preparation and finish work included in the project.
For shower pan repair and replacement projects, that may include preparing the repaired area for tile, installing replacement tile and completing the grout work.
